Dr. Ravindra Kumar is a distinguished scientist specializing in Genetics and Molecular Hematology. He is currently serving as Scientist D at ICMR-National Institute for Tribal Health Research, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, he holds an academic position as an Assistant Professor at AcSIR, Uttar Pradesh. With over a decade of experience, Dr. Kumar has made significant contributions to hematological research, particularly in thalassemia and sickle cell disease.
Dr. Kumar has played a pivotal role in multiple research projects funded by ICMR, SERB-DST, DBT, CCRAS and NHM, focusing on hemoglobinopathies and genetic disorders. As Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. These include pioneering work on paper-based screening tests for sickle cell anemia, large-scale community screening for hemoglobinopathies, and implementation research under the National Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission. He has also spearheaded projects addressing tuberculosis in tribal communities, metabolic syndromes, chronic kidney disease, and maternal health outcomes. His leadership in establishing a Center of Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease and participation in the Mission Program on Pediatric Rare Genetic Disorders highlight his role in shaping national strategies for genetic disease management.. His contributions to scientific literature include over 125 publications in reputed journals. His accolades include the Santosh and Arjun Dev Taneja Memorial Award for Excellence 2025, Dr. Dhirendra Nath Das Best Paper Award (Hematocon 2015) and Young Scientist Award (DST-Fast Track Scheme in 2012). Dr. Kumar has extensive teaching experience, mentoring PhD, MD, and DM students, and served as a guest faculty in genetics courses. Dr Kumar has served as member in various National Level Committees for the designing and formulation of action plan for National Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission 2047.
Currently, Dr. Kumar is leading efforts to optimize the management of sickle cell disease and rare genetic disorders through multicentre research and implementation projects. His work continues to impact public health policies and genetic research, particularly in tribal communities, making significant strides toward improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for hematological disorders.
