BIOS:
Dr. Vijay Pratap Singh is a DBT-Ramalingaswami Fellow and Assistant Professor (AcSIR) at the ICMR-National Institute for Tribal Health Research (ICMR-NITHR), Jabalpur. His research focuses on maternal and child health, with particular emphasis on understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern placental development and function. Dr. Singh has established a strong research portfolio, with more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed indexed journals, conference proceedings, and other scientific outlets. His work investigates how genome maintenance pathways influence the cells of the developing placenta, a unique and highly polyploid organ essential for successful pregnancy outcomes. His laboratory employs advanced molecular, cellular, and genetic approaches using human trophoblast stem cells and mouse models to identify key regulators of genome maintenance across different placental cell types. Through this work, he aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying placental health and disease, thereby contributing to improved maternal and fetal outcomes. Beyond its relevance to maternal-fetal medicine, Dr. Singh’s research provides broader insights into the fundamental relationships between genome maintenance, aging, and cancer, highlighting the placenta as a valuable model for understanding these interconnected biological processes.
