BIOS:
Dr Harshwardhan Vijay Shende is a Scientist C at ICMR-National Institute for Tribal Health Research, Jabalpur. He holds a PhD in Rural Development from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. His research interests include tribal health, mental health, sickle cell disease (SCD), health systems research, and implementation research. He is currently the Principal Investigator of a study on anxiety and depression among SCD patients. He is involved in multiple institutional projects on implementation research on the SCD mission project, connecting traditional healers to the public health system, and gaps and challenges in healthcare systems. He has published peer-reviewed research on millets and tribal health, antenatal care utilisation among tribal women, and mental health among Scheduled Tribes in India.
He has contributed to the Model Rural Health Research Units (MRHRUs) through the coordination of capacity-building programmes, community outreach activities, and public health training initiatives. In addition to his research responsibilities, Dr Shende serves as the Nodal Communication Officer (NCO) for national scientific outreach programmes and has played a key role in coordinating scientific and community engagement activities. He is also working as the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) and has other institutional administrative responsibilities.
